Possible Effects of an Untreated Hearing Loss:

Do you constantly have to turn up the volume of the TV? Are you asking people to repeat themselves because you feel that they are mumbling? Do you have trouble remembering and problem solving? It might be due to a hearing loss and it is important to not leave it untreated.

Possible effects of an untreated hearing loss:

  1. Depression & social isolation

Feelings of isolation may start to creep in due to not being able to participate in conversations (unfortunately the joke is not that funny when you miss the punchline). This can affect your self-esteem and confidence and can lead to loneliness and depression.

  1. Increased risk of dementia

Overcompensation of the brain can have implications on higher level-functioning such as memory. This can increase the risk of Dementia and cognitive decline. It is important to treat a hearing loss as soon as possible in order to reduce these risks.

  1. Ringing in the ears (Tinnitus)

Tinnitus can be a symptom of hearing loss. For some people, this can cause problems with sleep. Tinnitus can also increase levels of anxiety. Research suggests that 90% of people with Tinnitus have some form of hearing loss. Therefore, managing your hearing loss can also result in improvements in your Tinnitus.

  1. Your safety may be compromised

Not being able to hear your surroundings can cause safety risks. Hearing loss can even increase your risk of falling.

Never underestimate the power of something small, such as hearing aids. Managing a hearing loss can be magical and life changing. Hearing aids improve your communication skills, keep you socially active and enriches your brain.

It is important to treat your hearing loss sooner rather than later. Don’t delay improving your quality of life!
